Pleats
Layered folds of cloth create fullness across the back of a shirt, giving the
wearer ease of movement. At Hume we recognise that every body is
different and therefore every shirt is bespoke to all figures or lifestyles.
There are various ways to add said fullness. Making them become a style
feature almost as much as a practical feature.
Plain With a clean back you get a neat fit, something that shouldn ’ t be a problem if the shoulders are cut to the correct size. This is a go to style for Hume london. Creating a clean and tailored look.
Gathered Evenly distributing fullness helps the back appear smooth while still giving room to move. This is a lovely effect in a silk or linen fabric as it creates an elegant drape across the back.
Knife Pleats Two folds sat over the shoulder blades throwing the fullness directly over the area where our backs extend in movement. If fullness is needed but no specification is given this is where you will see this style.
Box Pleats A large fold of fabric at the center of the back, This pleat offers more fullness than the others giving a large range of movement as well as making the shirt a fuller fit. The extra movement was used for sportswear before the invention of stretch fabric. This has led to it now being associated with more casual styles.
